Potatoe peeler4/4/2023 Move your peeler to the edge of the hunk of cheese and enjoy a convenient shaving process. Oddly enough, a potato peeler serves more purposes than a grater when it comes to cheeses such as parmesan or cheddar. Shave Hard Cheese, Cold Butter, and Chocolate CurlsĪre you a fan of salads because you love savoring that umami goodness the cheeses give along with the leafy crunch?Īre you on a time constraint on most mornings? If you are, the frozen butter-on-toast option might be your best bet! This is a much easier process than using a paring knife or vegetable peeler to mince your onion. A peeler comes in handy when you need finely cut pieces of an onion for a hearty bowl of beef stroganoff. Just cut an onion in half, hold the hand-cut part of the onion towards the peeler, and move it in a back and forth motion. There are plenty of tips and tricks out there for slicing onions conveniently. The sharpened blade on your gadget will take care of the rest of the peeling process! All you’ve got to do is hold the zucchini at a downward angle and peel away while holding your peeler in a comfortable position. What do you call a vegetable peeler that allows you to make zucchini noodles without the need for a spiralizer or a mandoline? Versatility at its finest! Zucchini noodles and ribbon salads both pose as great alternatives for pasta and a low-carb one at that. Using your peeler from the top to the bottom of the celery stalk juts out the stringy bits and allows them to fall out. Vegetables with a slightly softer texture such as celery are great to munch on for a quick snack, but let’s be honest, the stringy nature of this vegetable can get stuck on your teeth. The same goes for apples & carrots! These vegetables require a delicate hand on their skin, and the right peeler would adapt to the task instinctively. While peeling the skin of an apple, a good peeler would ensure that you’re not breaking it away from the actual nutritious components of the fruit and allow you to work with fruits and vegetables that have softer textures. When you grab your peeler, it is important to make sure that you don’t peel away parts of the fruit or vegetable when peeling the skin. Most importantly, a kitchen knife won’t help you peel the skin, let alone the entire potato. In this scenario, find yourself caught up in the middle of a kitchen mishap. If you don’t slow down near them, you’re going to hurt yourself. ![]() They act as speed-breakers on a steady highway. They can also make it difficult for you to peel potatoes seamlessly. A large potato eye is single-handedly the biggest inconvenience, second only to plenty of small ones all over your potato. Your potato peeler should be used first and foremost as a potato eye remover. ![]() Versatility in your potato peeler is everything! Your potato peeler should allow you to do the following efficiently: Or, one that comes with a set of replacement blades made with a high-quality metal such as Japanese stainless steel, and a potato eye remover. What you should look for in your potato peeler goes beyond an ultra sharp blade that is made with stainless steel. ![]() A potato peeler isn’t as one-dimensional as it is made out to be, and I’m more than happy to enlighten you on the ‘how's’ and ‘why’s of that. If you’re familiar with Dalstrong, you must know by now that we value versatility. This is your sign to take a closer look at the everyday gadgets in your kitchen. That is probably because this gadget is smaller compared to other kitchen accessories and essentials such as knives or cutting boards. ![]() Why Everyone Needs a Potato PeelerĬhances are, you haven’t had a close look at your potato peeler including its handle and its blade recently. But first, let’s discuss a couple more thoughts that come to mind. A vegetable such as a tomato would require the peeler to have a blade that is curated to peel its thin skin without damaging the pulp. But, a good potato peeler would showcase its efficiency each time you use it.Ī kitchen veggie peeler is not one-size-fits-all. A peeler is a common gadget in almost every home. This is why you probably don’t give it much thought. Investing in a good veggie peeler for your kitchen is necessary before you can move on to cutting them up for a good char on the grill. A good potato peeler removes the outer layer of the fruit or vegetable efficiently, as well as other blemishes such as a potato eye. These blades are usually made of stainless steel for durability and sturdiness which would prevent mishaps while peeling over your cutting board, while in the kitchen. You might know it better by the name of a vegetable scraper.Ī peeler has a metal blade attached to it, which acts as a ‘slot’. And hey, the best vegetable on planet earth deserves the best tools to treat it right. Today, I’m excited to be talking to you about humanity’s common love interest – Potatoes.

Worms reloaded voice chat4/4/2023 ![]() These start off being relatively easy, but some of the extra missions and those towards the end of the campaign can be fiendishly difficult. With a timer restricting your actions in each round that you have, things can get rather frustrating when you’re wasting precious time getting stuck in a hole.īetween the main 30 campaign levels, challenge missions which need to be unlocked, and added ‘Extra’ and ‘Bonus’ missions, you’ll have a pleasingly large chunk of single player action to get your teeth stuck into. Travelling around the warzone can be a real nuisance at times with jagged edges in the scenery preventing your worm from being able to jump around as you’d like it to. Unfortunately, this can highlight one of Worms’ biggest issues – moving around. With every explosion, huge chunks of the battlefield will be taken away leaving potentially deadly holes to the water below. ![]() The stages you can play in (including the new space theme, Wormhole, which is a timed-exclusive for the Switch version) are made up of beautiful, hand-drawn art which, almost upsettingly, can be completely destroyed. We’ll come back to this a little later on, though. Content from the All-Stars pack which is available on other consoles returns here so, if you’d like, you can dress up your worm in outfits based on other Team17 games such as Yooka-Laylee or The Escapists and you can also fully customise the game’s settings when playing in multiplayer mode, allowing you to create very specific rules if you wish. Of course, each match is customisable to your preferred play-style as you can work towards crafting the weapons that you want to use, but you can also change your appearance, voice, and more. There is a huge amount of customisation available to you, too, including some new content exclusive to the Switch version. The game’s training mode will teach you how to use some of the more basic armaments but, if you want to see everything that the game can offer you, you’ll have to commit a lot of time to some trial-and-error exploration of each weapon in non-important matches. ![]() Often, being able to craft the perfect weapons is the key to success – you’ll really need to know every weapon inside and out to be truly successful, making sure that you have the most useful selection ready to you depending on enemy locations. When you have enough parts to build something you can start the crafting process – weapons take one complete turn before they are ready to use. To build weapons you’ll need to either dismantle the weapons you start the match with for parts, or find parts on the battlefield inside crates. Crafting allows players to build weapons either during your turn, or an opponent’s (which is a great way to fill the time). Vehicles are susceptible to damage and will eventually blow up – if you’re sitting inside a vehicle for protection but an opposing team does enough damage to it you’ll find yourself being caught up in a mighty explosion.Īlso added to the game are buildings, which allow worms to take cover from enemy attacks (unless an opponent wiggles their way inside) and crafting, which changes the basic Worms formula quite drastically. ![]() The vehicles aren’t overpowered, though, as each one feels like it is a risk-reward type of system. There are three main vehicle types available: tanks, which can allow you to travel over rough ground and can fire six explosive bullets helicopters, which must be flown over the top of the battlefield, heavily firing down on opponents with a machine gun from above and Mechs, which can help you to move around much quicker and can send enemy worms flying across the stage with a hefty punch. introduces vehicles which can be used both as weapons, and for defence. There are, however, plenty of new additions to change things up and, for the most part, these are very welcome indeed. The series has returned to its 2D roots, having players zoom in and out and scroll the camera across vast maps, and many fan-favourite items have returned, such as the aforementioned Concrete Donkey. The basic concept of the game is simple anywhere from two to six teams must take part in an epic, turn-based battle across a large war-zone with the last team standing being victorious. has flung itself over from other consoles to the Switch meaning that even more mayhem is about to begin. Yes, this sentence could only be made possible by Worms - Team17’s mega-hit franchise which sees players hurtling various projectiles at one another in deadly battles between overly British worm characters. Deadly missiles are flying in every direction, the ground all around you is crumbling away under the pressure of multiple explosions, and an absurdly giant statue of a donkey is descending from the sky. In 1970, the descendants of the pilgrims wanted to hold a banquet to celebrate the anniversary of the Mayflower landing in Plymouth and asked a Wampanoag man named Wamsutta Frank James to make a speech, says his granddaughter, Kisha James. The United American Indians of New England declared Thanksgiving a National Day of Mourning 50 years ago. But many Native Americans say Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the slaughter of millions of Indigenous people and the theft of their lands by outsiders. The so-called first Thanksgiving has been celebrated and taught to schoolchildren as the origin story of what would later become the United States. Thunderplot4/3/2023 ![]() These generally have 11th Gen or 12th Gen Intel Core CPUs, and they're generally fine Ultrabooks with a focus on performance in a thin and light body. More and more laptops are coming to market with Thunderbolt 4 ports included. ![]() The takeaway here is that USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 are closely linked, with the latter delivering a more solid foundation for expected performance. You're only guaranteed for one external display with USB4, whereas Thunderbolt 4 offers dual 4K displays at 60Hz as a minimum. Minimum power through ports is also halved, with 7.5W instead of 15W. USB4's minimum speed goes as low as 20Gbps (or as high as 40Gbps), whereas Thunderbolt 4's minimum speed is stuck firmly at 40Gbps. USB4 lacks some features and the same minimum requirements that help ensure all Thunderbolt 4 products work essentially at the same performance level. Thunderbolt 4 is not the same as USB4, though the two are compatible with each other. Cables ranging from five meters to 50 meters are also in the works, though likely for a future standard. The best Thunderbolt 4 hubs and docking stations will be able to offer up to three downstream Thunderbolt ports, as well as cables that measure up to two meters. And you'll now be able to pull your PC out of hibernation by using any device connected with a Thunderbolt docking station. ![]() Thunderbolt 4 adds extra DMA protection via Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) to help handle connected threats. Cream of tartar4/3/2023 ![]() Eventually, the rest of the world caught on.Ĭream of tartar is actually made up of sodium bicarbonate ( baking soda) and tartaric acid (cream of tartar). Later, in 1847, Louis Pasteur also investigated cream of tartar, and it became wildly popular with the French for cooking. ![]() They are then removed and purified before being packaged in jars or tins or bags, and placed on the shelves of your grocer's baking aisle.įrench physicist Jean-Baptiste Biot, in 1832, is credited with discovering various physical properties of cream of tartar. When the water evaporates, the crystals - or wine diamonds - form. The process involves treating wine lees (the solids leftover from crushed grapes during winemaking) with hot water to dissolve the potassium bitartrate. If that still isn’t enough to make you appreciate cream of tartar, how about its cleaning abilities? A blackened aluminum pot will shine like new if you boil water with two spoonfuls of cream of tartar per liter in it. Finally, cream of tartar complexes iron so it will even take rust stains out of fabrics and the bathtub. The modern way of making cream of tartar dates back to 1768, thanks to Swedish chemist C.W. The addition of cream of tartar limits the extent to which proteins can bond to each other. Sometimes, however, the proteins form too many links to each other and overcoagulation results. Coiled proteins unwind and link up in a rigid three-dimensional network. ![]() That’s just what happens when we whip egg whites to make meringue. There is something else that cream of tartar can interfere with. If a small amount of cream of tartar is added, some of the sucrose is hydrolyzed to glucose and fructose which are less likely to form large crystals. But this has to be done in a fashion that ensures small crystal formation otherwise the candy becomes too brittle and crunchy. Candies are basically made by cooling down solutions in which a lot of sugar has been dissolved. The bubbling action can dislodge small blockages.Ĭandy makers also know all about cream of tartar. Just make up a mix of one cup bicarbonate, one quarter cup cream of tartar and one cup of salt (for increased density) and periodically pour a few spoonfuls down the drain. The same chemistry can be used to keep drains clear. When the mixture dissolves, bubbles of carbon dioxide are released. In fact, one version of baking powder is a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar. It is ideal for the generation of carbon dioxide from baking soda. It is a cheap, safe, readily available mild acid. And thus was born the idea of the tetrahedral carbon atom.Įmotional connections aside, there are still plenty of reasons to appreciate cream of tartar. A brilliant deduction! Eventually van’t Hoff and Lebel concluded that this was possible only if the molecules were not planar but three-dimensional. He then went on to suggest that the mirror image crystals were likely made of mirror image molecules and that nature produced only one of these two versions. He laboriously separated these with tweezers and discovered that one set of crystals was identical to the tartrate prepared from the “natural” source. When he examined the latter through a microscope, he found that it was composed of two kinds of crystals which were mirror images of each other. He found that sodium ammonium tartrate which he prepared from natural tartaric acid was not exactly the same as the version made from tartaric acid that had been synthesized in the laboratory. Pasteur became interested in the chemistry of winemaking and launched into a study of tartaric acid and its various salts. In chemical terms, it is potassium hydrogen tartrate which is basically partially neutralized tartaric acid. It is a byproduct of winemaking and remains behind as a sediment after fermentation. Cream of tartar is close to the heart of any organic chemist because the study of this compound by Louis Pasteur in 1848 was pivotal in leading to the understanding of the three dimensional structure of molecules.
